Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson disclosed he came dangerously close to a life-threatening collision during Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix when a pair of track officials darted across the track immediately ahead of his car

The concerning event occurred on the third lap when marshals were seen on the circuit as Lawson was getting back on the race following an quick visit to the pits to swap his damaged front wing

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Immediately after, the Formula 1 racer Lawson spoke to his team engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Could you believe what happened? I might have... taken their lives"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was observing"

"I rejoined with a brand new hard tyres, and then I approached Turn One and there were just two dudes dashing across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, truthfully, it was incredibly risky"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Evidently there's been a failure in communication somehow but I've never encountered that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We cannot comprehend how on a live track track officials can be permitted to just dash across the track like that. I have no idea why, I'm confident we'll get some sort of explanation, but this absolutely cannot recur"

Official Investigation Underway

The sport's regulatory authority, the global motorsport federation, is actively examining the circumstances

"Following a turn one incident, race control was informed that wreckage remained on the track at the critical section of that bend" declared the regulatory authority

"During the third lap, safety personnel were alerted and made ready to access the circuit and remove the wreckage once all cars had passed"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had pitted, the orders to send personnel were rescinded and a double yellow flag was shown in that area"

"Our inquiry continues what transpired after that point"
